GREG’S TRUCKLOAD
This may be a once and done scenario, but I’m hoping to offer a newsletter on a monthly or seasonal basis to keep customers family and friends updated on what I offer, my schedule, timing and resources.
New this year, I will be offering mosquito control on a monthly basis with rates starting at $50 per month. The product (bifenthrin) I will be applying also offers tick control, and this can be applied to your lawn as well for an additional fee. If you are interested, contact me to find out more.
Spring is around the corner.
Spring is almost here; my plan is to come out of hibernation and jump right in early March. Lawn pre-emergent (crabgrass control) should be applied when ground temperature is in the low fifties. This application times out during the flowering of the forsythias. During this time, I will be offering yard cleanups, pruning, and mulching. Every year is a little different and turf types also vary, but on average mowing will begin around March 20th. The plan is to mow shorter in early season while it’s cool and then as mother nature (rain) causes delays in the schedule, I will raise cutting height to prepare turf for summer heat. April showers will generate the beginning of mosquito season; hence, April is when mosquito control will begin.
It’s still mid-February and cold, but this is the time to plan your garden, if you’re going to have one. I am going to do a cool weather spring garden, which will be replanted with a warm season summer garden after spring harvest (around derby weekend). Lettuces and greens prefer the cooler weather and can typically handle frosts and freezes that occur. I have already started these in the house and will hopefully transfer them out to the beds in early March. At this point, my trays will once again be planted with the summer garden plants that I would like to give a head start. Other veggies and flowers will be directly sown when temps allow. This is a great time to plan, gather seeds, and clean the garden up. I encourage you to try growing some of your own veggies.
If you know me, you know I love to get out and hit the road to explore new and old places. One of my favorites are our good old Kentucky state parks. I do love state parks all around the country, but Kentucky state parks are nice and close. They are great for visiting for just a day or for the weekend. My family and I love to visit the Kentucky state park campgrounds. If you also enjoy camping, the Kentucky state parks offer camper appreciation weekend on the last weekend of April. Not only does camper appreciation get you one free night, but there are also many special activities you can enjoy.
