GREG’S TRUCKLOAD
Greg’s Truckload vol. 18
Hello, Truckers. The mowing season will be off to a late start this year compared to the last couple of years, but still, lots is happening. First off, thank you for all of the votes in the Derby burger challenge. It worked, and I’ll be competing in the finals on Monday, March 10th, on Fox in the morning. That’s exciting. I will likely prepare burgers a few times this week for the practice. Dang, twist my arm.
Another blast of cold is currently working in; it’s 5 am, the wind is howling, and so are the neighborhood cats; something has them all rolled up. After this cold passes, I’ll transfer the cool weather garden plants outside, and the warm season plants get their day under the warm lights. I’m starting them early this year, so I’ll have some nice-sized plants for the swap. Speaking of that, I’ve been helping the boys work on setting up a gourmet lemonade stand at the event. They will offer a variety of flavors, from blueberry to strawberry and mango, and possibly stevia-based sugar-free. Stevia is one of the garden plants we will try out this year. I haven’t grown it since the Fox Hollow days. We will see what we can do with it. This morning, when cooking a batch of lentils, I wanted to add some fresh ginger and was all out; then I remembered I had a bunch in the garage that I had never harvested. I figured it had rotted but dug up some anyway, and it was fine. Pretty cool to have it that fresh. I think what happened in years past is that I tried to keep it growing, but it went bad with a lack of light and warmth. I moved it into the garage this year but did not water it, which worked great. Now I know, and if you grow ginger this season, let the pot dry out and store it in a cool location like a garage. There is not much else going on, so I guess I’ll go out and sharpen some blades for the mower. It will be time to roll soon enough. Till next time, stay warm, truckers
